For over twenty-five years, Robert Houser has photographed people of all walks of life for advertising, editorial and corporate clients. He has been commissioned to photograph for healthcare clients like BioMarin, BioRad and Genentech, while his business portraiture has been published in Forbes, Business Week, Wired, and many others. His work on Facing Chemo earned distinction in 2012 with its publication in the Communication Arts Photography Annual. After growing up with a strong background in science, Robert Houser turned to photography upon graduating from Brown University with a degree in both Psychology and Comparative Literature. The crossroads of art and science is an area that has inspired him since his days at Brown.
Denise Ockey has a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from The University of California, Davis. She worked for a number of years in the biotech industry doing research and developing new pharmaceuticals that treated a number of indications such as cancer, diabetic retinopathy, and malaria. Through her experience in the biotech arena, she has gained insight to the challenges of developing new treatments and has gained some insight to the trials and tribulations that the patients endure when faced with a serious illness. Recently, she is pursuing her MFA in photography at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. It is through this University where she met Robert Houser and became involved with the Facing Light Foundation.
Overseeing marketing and operations for Robert Houser Photography, Katie Hall has worked closely on the development of Facing Light for the past five years. Katie has over fifteen years experience working with emerging businesses in both the Bay Area and Philadelphia. She has extensive experience developing and executing marketing strategies and promotional programs, managing media plans and budgets, and forming strategic alliances. Prior to that she spent six years with Montgomery Securities, an investment-banking firm, as both a corporate marketing analyst and a financial M&A analyst. Katie graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with degrees in Art History and Fine Arts. Discovering a passion for photography later in life, she also established her own portrait photography business while living in Philadelphia.
Dr. Caponigro received her Undergraduate degree at Brown University before moving West to attend Medical School, Radiology Residency and Ultrasound Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. She has worked as a Board Certified Diagnostic Radiologist in a large inpatient-outpatient Radiology practice since 1999, serving as Department Assistant Chief from 2001-2004, and as the head of the Ultrasound Section until 2012. She has been recognized by her Medical Practice with a Physician Hero award in 2008 and a Karis award in 2011 for taking outstanding clinical and compassionate care her patients.
Ms. Borrowman is a Sr. Principal Consultant for National Service Quality. She began her career at Kaiser as an EPIC certified Sr. Learning Consultant for HealthConnect Optimization. She was previously the Associate Director of Operations for the English Center for International Women at Mills College and for EastBay Works Multilingual Career Center capitalizing on her international career developed when working and living abroad in Asia for 10 years. Her background is in instructional design, customer service and operations. Dexter spent time as a Coro Civic Foundation Community Leader Fellow with a focus area in healthcare. She is also a certified American Health Insurance Plans Executive. In her current role, Dexter is a (Studer certified) Internal Organizational Effectiveness Coach who works in the field to improve the care experience program wide. She had been able take her patient care experience work to a deeper level as a KP member and recent breast cancer survivor who has become a breast cancer care improvement and peer navigation champion for Kaiser Permanente.
Connie is an entrepreneurial leader with an extensive background in strategy, communications, creative direction, brand identity design, multimedia marketing, and consulting services. A storyteller at heart, she is deeply passionate about creating memorable connections through her work to effectively engage the audience and inspire action. Connie currently serves as the Head of Communications and Strategic Relations at Genentech U.S. Medical Affairs. In this capacity, she creates meaningful content, interactions and experiences by applying a unique blend of art and science to help people see the organization’s collective impact and the journey to healing through a new lens. Connie was previously a management consulting executive at Accenture, where she delivered innovative business strategies and solutions across multiple industries including healthcare, high technology, media and entertainment. Connie is an avid supporter of several nationally recognized non-profit organizations that focus on advancing medical research, and she serves as an advisor to several emerging companies during the start-up and business development phases.
